The heart of Willowbank is our three-year Diploma program in Heritage Conservation. We embrace innovation, interdisciplinary problem solving, and an integrated study of practice, place and people. Willowbank continues to establish a stronger and meaningful rapport in the domain of heritage conservation nationally and globally. We are the Canadian headquarters of INTBAU (the International Network for Traditional Building, Architecture & Urbanism), a global network promoting traditional building, architecture, and urbanism. HM King Charles III is the patron of Willowbank.
Our world-leading diploma in Heritage Conservation, delivered by internationally renowned faculty. The program is designed to cover a broad range of competencies within the Heritage Conservation domain. Program outcomes cover the broader skills areas that include Health and Safety, Cultural Landscape Theory and Practice, Heritage Conservation Tools and Techniques, Architectural Design and Building Science, Heritage Conservation Planning and Management, Contracts Management, Heritage Approvals, Building Codes and Professionalism, Sustainability, Construction Acumen, Heritage Conservation Assessment, Project Management, Business Acumen, Research and Innovation, and Traditions and Culture.
The Heritage Conservation Diploma Program at Willowbank is well recognised for its progressive and unconventional model which enables students to gain knowledge beyond the classroom by engaging with the real world through a combination of theory and hands-on learning. Our staff and faculty are dedicated to providing learners with engaging classes, practical and innovative programs and creating a robust and conducive environment that is fun, welcoming and culturally inclusive. We are committed to academic and vocational success of learners, and support them through their educational journey.
Willowbank students are passionate about history, conservation, traditional building methods, sustainability, and community design. Our courses are delivered by a faculty consisting of leading international practitioners in conservation, design, and sustainability, including master tradespeople, designers, planners, academics, and artisans. We support applied and collective learning in a small and diverse group environment. Through the work-integrated learning model, where analytical and problem-solving skills are at the core of hands-on learning, Willowbank trains the future leaders of Heritage Conservation. With an employment rate of over 95%, Willowbank graduates work in a vast range of industries, including design firms, heritage skilled trades, community development, construction, architecture, planning consultancies and academia.
We believe heritage plays a pivotal and essential role in creating a sustainable future. Our focus is on traditional practices, ways of building and inhabiting places. We teach contemporary design and planning, and work on sustainability issues and environmental approaches to urban planning. Our students find the learning experience exciting, challenging and rewarding. Whether it is on-campus social activities, community engagement or volunteerism, there are numerous opportunities that enrich our students’ learning experience.

Welcome to Willowbank
It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Willowbank School of Restoration Arts, Ontario. Willowbank is an internationally acclaimed, not for profit, career college in Queenston located on the Willowbank Estate [a national historic site, nestled in 13 acres, by the Niagara River]. We are an innovative institution actively engaged in shaping new approaches to the stewardship of historic places and sustainable communities. The school has been on the vanguard of heritage conservation and the adaptive reuse of existing buildings since 2006.
Willowbank’s applied education pedagogy balances theory with hands-on skills, and emphasizes the interconnections of our built, natural and cultural heritage resources.
