On September 3 2024, new and returning students met with their peers, staff, faculty and Indigenous community facilitator and Board members in the drystone building at Willowbank.
Those in attendance were left moved and inspired by the enlightening words before all from Marie-Louise Bowering - Indigenous community facilitator and Board member, who stressed the importance of slowing down, being present and gratitude.
On Behalf of the Board of Directors of Willowbank, Interim Chair - Clinton Brown, welcomed the seven returning and eight new students to Willowbank. Clinton shared how in his view, Willowbank is the preeminent place where students learn the art and science of heritage conservation that honours our ancestors and informs our descendants of the value of our built and landscape inheritance, across Canada and around the world. President Dr. Faisal Arain delivered a warm and practical welcome.
The morning saw third year students share their highlights and sage advice following their time at Messors School and The King’s Foundation this Summer ~ thanks to the Humeniuk Scholarship at Willowbank: Unleashing Minds - Transforming Lives. Students then toured the Indigenous Love Garden and the Willowbank Estate. The positive energy was palpable, and we thank everyone who has helped Willowbank get to this place of strength.
