As a dynamic organization in a rapidly changing landscape, Willowbank is deeply rooted by its values. These enduring principles reflect the essence of Willowbank's character, and they serve as the framework that will shape our future.

Mission

Mission Statement:

Willowbank’s mission is to advance the stewardship of historic places and sustainable communities through an innovative balance of theory and practice. By offering a multi-disciplinary, experiential curriculum, we prepare future leaders in heritage conservation to address complex challenges across diverse fields, from design and skilled trades to community development.

 

Objectives:

As we enter into 2025, we “Strive for 2025” and the Board proudly maintains its commitment to Laura’s original premise, and the future prominence of a renewed Willowbank School of Restoration Arts; as a:

1. Nationally significant place of academic excellence

2. Model National Historic Site

3. Nationally significant place of reconciliation.

Vision:  

To be internationally recognised for crafting transformational programs and experiences that: ​

  • Inspire students to make significant contributions to heritage restoration arts and conservation 

  • Equip students with the skills and capabilities required to enter the field 

  • Deliver valuable, relevant experiences that extend beyond the classroom

  • Result in meaningful connections amongst students, faculty, staff, employers and the community

Values

Values are critical to our success; they shape our culture:


  • Trust:  shared behaviour and beliefs to nurture confidence and respect

  • Healthy Community:  supportive, happy, inspiring, contemplative place

In best practice, the beauty of the restorative arts is that they work against the influence of cultural apathy towards quality in construction. One way this happens at a grassroots level. I believe this transfer of knowledge should also be seen as a sharing of responsibility. To that end, I cannot understate the value of providing a space where students can study the built heritage of our past to better understand the responsibilities of the future.
