Nathan Schafer

Nathan worked as a conventional carpenter and woodworker across the scope of local industries before culminating his skills in the practice of heritage restoration. Within this specialization he has vitrified his respect for wood as a legacy building material, and for the inherently sustainable practices that can be observed in the long-standing craftsmanship of antiquity.
Privileged by his hands-on exposure to contemporary and historic ideals of craft quality, Nathan strives to honor these ideals by growing our communal sensitivity towards them. Additionally, he hopes to share the pride that can be gained through the maintenance and care of our built environment. This is a pride which he has felt while teaching at Willowbank, and while restoring woodworks all over the downtown core of Hamilton with the team at Lower City Joinery. Nathan is working to expand his cross-disciplinary understanding of sustainable building practices as he studies Architectural Technology at Mohawk College in Hamilton, Ontario.
